Thank you to all the volunteers that completed the perimeter fencing yesterday. All strainers, stock fencing and top wires in position.
Our appeal for sponsors for good size bare root trees to go with the 1500 hedging plants has had a fantastic response with pledges for over 30 already received. Thanks to Dave who is organising this and varieties selected (all native) range from Oak, Birch, Crab Apple, Lime to Cherry. The adjacent Bee Farm will be very pleased. We have also received our first bird boxes which will be attached to existing trees.
We will announce a planting weekend as soon as we get delivery dates. We are hoping that this will spark the biggest single members turn out, why not all the 200 members plus families? More details shortly but as the club has raised the funds for the hedging we are hoping that those planting would donate 10p per plant to help us cover the cost of supporting canes and protectors. Creative thinking at its best but what a boost for our environment.
After-School Satellite Club have-a-go session.
Just before the Christmas we decided to let the pupils of Balcarras School know that we were running an open session at the school for them to bring along a parent, show off their skills and hopefully get them to take up the sport.
All the evidence supports the idea that getting family units involved makes it far more likely that juniors will remain engaged.
We were unsure if anybody would turn up as it relied on the pupils remembering to mention it and for them to feel comfortable coming back to school in the holiday and with a parent. We were pleasantly surprised (and relieved) when a good number did make it along, had a great time and some have enrolled on the Club Beginners Course starting late January!
Again thank you to our coaches, volunteers and Balcarras School who supported the event and we will certainly be repeating this in other schools local to our new ground.
Practice session completes the day
