Our field course Boxing Day shoot was a great success, completed in 2 hours, 21 targets, dry but windy and remarkably manageable underfoot.
Thanks to the working party that helped put the target faces and 3D targets out and a better than anticipated attendance. Pleased to report only a couple of arrows damaged on what is not an easy course. Most competitive bow type was Barebow, with John Dalton top scoring with 177 with Roger, Vanessa and Hamish all less than 20 points behind! Dave Miller top scored with 103 for the longbows, Lucy Mason top scoring compound with 290. Well done to all the first timers and to William who at just 9 years old was very tired but he completed the course! It was great to see David Ponton coming along to watch.
Less than a year ago we were planting hedging and trees in what can only be described as a swamp, thanks to our drainage we are pleased to say that despite all the rain we have had, the main field was much improved on last winter!
On the 3rd January we are hosting some visitors from out of county who are coming along to use our field course, they have considerable experience and it will be good to hear their thoughts on the potential of our course, which is very much work in progress.
It was a great feeling as we all gathered in the car park recognizing that just 12 weeks from now, there will be a covered shooting area and a temporary clubhouse in place!
Christmas League off to a good start!
Thanks to being able to use Balcarras on a daily basis league fixtures are gradually being completed. There are 5 divisions of 8 players, John Craigie leads the longbow league, Martin Tucker the recurve, Dan Gill the compound, Alana Spedding the Junior League and in what is certainly the most competitive league, Rachel Lucas leads the barebow division. All the leaders have 100% records.
