Success has grown every year and now (2018) literally thousands of pupils have enjoyed the opportunity to try archery!
Since 2008 we have been supporting an increasing number of primary, secondary and special needs schools by running after-school clubs, lunch time sessions, sports days, Golden Time Rewards, activities weeks, GCSE’s, D of E’s etc.
We run these in partnerships with Xperience Archery (2 of our members who have set up their own archery coaching business), Active Gloucestershire, coaches from other clubs who want to be involved, importantly volunteer teachers from the schools we support and of course our own coaches! More recently (2015 onwards) junior members of the club are also helping at the schools!
We have fully qualified club coaches volunteering at every school session and virtually all our club coaches have contributed some of their time to after-school clubs as part of their contribution to the community. Where pupils are also members of the club we also engage them to help with the activities.
The club has been very successful in gaining additional funding to support some of the programmes, PESSYP, Sport Unlimited, Sportivate and more recently support with setting up 3 thriving satellite clubs at Balcarras, High School for Girls and GL1.
An excellent set of equipment has been assembled from bosses to bows to support the development of the pupils from beginner to intermediate. This equipment allowed us to support the first Level 3 School Games that took place in 2012.
Following the great work we are doing in schools and the reputation we have developed over the years, the success we have had both from a Club & Archer development perspective has created a demand we were struggling to meet before the Olympics. Following the Olympics, the start of the 2012/13 academic year has saw an incredible response to our sport, with established after-school clubs having x-factor length queues wanting to join!
During 2016 we will support more than 100 Primary and Secondary Schools to introduce their pupils to a great sport and almost certainly discover even more very talented archers!
In 2017 we had more than 120 Primary Schools and 12 secondary schools competing in the school games, with increasing standards and many sub competitions happening across the whole year!
