Open Community Indoor Have-a-go sessions start!
Thursday evening saw us run our first winter open community have-a-go session at our training centre, online booking and payment, splitting the evening into 2 separate sessions to accommodate numbers and ensure best experience, single detail, lots of shooting and maximum of 2 to 1 Coaching ratio. All added up to 2 great sessions.
First meeting of our ‘Men-in-sheds’ group
Good social gathering (open group) on Friday morning. Lots of ideas on things to do, frequency of meetings etc. Certainly many years of experience, wide range of skills and everyone looking forward to exciting times!
Short Mat Carpet Bowls Equipment Collected
On Friday morning we collected the equipment to trial with a view to starting a new activity, open to the local community as well as members.
Improvers and Beginners Programmes Complete
Friday evening saw one of our beginners programmes complete. As a consequence of the less than helpful 6 months Archery GB prorata Membership policy, delegates will not join until April 1st. XPA will run some improvers sessions to maintain engagement, continue development etc.
Another one of the improvers programmes also completed and feedback confirms that lots of excellent progress has been made by individual archers and candidate coaches.
The Friday evenings will now be given over to ‘Junior Only’ practice and team building sessions.
Open Field Mini-League
Saturday saw the conclusion of our winter field league, another great success with a big jump in numbers and clubs involved.
3 established divisions with between 16 & 12 in each division, many positions not finalised until the final shoot, so great competition.
The club has just invested in additional 3D targets to allow us to run our first 2 day Record Status 3D Shoot later this year, entry bookings already available online and likely to be full in next few weeks!
Level 1 Coaching Course
Day 3 completed at the training centre on Sunday, this is a county supported programme with 7 clubs having candidates attending. We would like to thank our course tutor Sue Matthews, fantastic as usual!
Double Bray 1 Record Status Annual Tournament – Also on Sunday!
Fully booked, no national records this time, but lots of county records, great support from Droitwich Company of Archers, thank you. Top performances from John Craigie, John Dalton and Chloe A’Bear.
Drop-in Equipment Workshop
On Monday despite a very busy weekend and following requests from members and recognition that too much of our coaches time is being spent helping with equipment maintenance, we ran an equipment workshop. The various ‘topic tables’ proved to be a good format.
Perfect Score!
Well done to Lucy Mason for scoring a perfect 600 at the Andover Vegas Shoot over the weekend. Also to Ella Gibson on her 598, Close but not close enough!
School Games Programme in full flow!
All the Secondary School Team Finalists are preparing for the County Senior Schools Championships which will take place earlier this year to avoid the exam period. The Primary Schools Team Championships will take place during the summer term. Last year we supported more than 120 schools competing across the county.
Wales Archery Recurve workshop tops 50 bookings!
The third in our series of workshops run by Wales Archery (book online) has passed the 50 attendees mark, great compliment to the quality of the workshops delivered by Graham Weller and his team! The feedback from the first 2 (Compound & Barebow/longbow) has been excellent so the recurve workshop is eagerly awaited.
