Another busy few days for the club!

Satellite Clubs

Last Thursday saw 2 of our Satellite Clubs meet in a reserve team competition. A close match with Balcarras winning by 34 points to 30 over HSFG as preparation for the 2017 school games gets underway.

Junior Club Social

Following another satellite club session after-school on Friday it was straight to a junior club social at the Cheltenham ZiZi. It was an excellent session, good food and very well attended.

Junior Social was again very popular.

Club working party

Saturday morning was a club ground maintenance morning with more than 30 members working on a range of jobs, from installing new gates and posts, building internal walls in the equipment store, hedge pruning, field course maintenance, marking up the final items with SmartWater and equipment maintenance getting ready for the outdoor season. The weather was kind and the food provided was much appreciated!

British Record Status Bray 1 another resounding success!

An almost full entry at our annual Bray on Sunday but despite some good scores being recorded unusually for us, there were no National Records claimed!

Best score of the day was Elia Gibson with 281 which equaled the British Record held by our own Lucy Mason.

There were a host of personal bests for our archers, so well done to them all.

Lucy Mason is recovering from what hopefully was a successful operation on badly torn ligaments in her ankle, which will keep her out of action for at least 6 weeks.

Coaches meeting a significant success

More than 20 of our coaches met last week to review the club’s coaching strategy and agree a development plan and a number of exciting actions were agreed. They also discussed the role of a coach in supporting the club’s enhanced safeguarding policy. A coaching brochure has been produced entitled ‘ Coaches – The Club’s Crown Jewels!’ This is a great illustration of how important they are to the club and our future!

Coaches meeting identified a number of key areas for further development.

Great Picture

Thought this was an excellent photo of our trophies and medals on display at our WA 18 Tournament we ran earlier this month, never short of creativity, this weekend’s Bray, did not award medals or trophies, all the winners went into a draw and the last one to be drawn out was the winner of a £50 Wales Archery voucher. Well done to Lynn Benfield who was our Lady P and won the voucher!

Sport England Monitors

We are pleased to report that we exceeded both Sport England Monitors by some distance, recoding both total footfall and new footfall well above the levels we anticipated. It is a fact that a lot of hard work goes into developing a club to qualify for a range of grants, then the preparation of the case and the celebration if the application is successful.

What many do not realise is that along with the award will be a set of objectives spanning a number of years to ensure the objectives are met and the correct monitors are in place. We currently have 6 sets of monitors that we are required to report on, some 4 monthly, others 6 and 12 monthly.

Club Safeguarding Policy

A complete review of our policies and how they operate has been led by our Club Welfare Officer – Helen Healey. As a result of this a number of actions have been taken, all parents have been written to, outlining the enhanced procedures being put in place. To support these 4 Safeguarding Officers have been appointed and information boards are being displayed at all of our venues outlining what is expected of all members and using information already provided by our Governing Body. There was a number of phone-ins on local radio last week and following a call by one of our parents highlighting our good work, we were invited to outline what we do as an example of best practice! We have emphasised to our members that good processes and intentions are only a starting point, they will be worthless unless we actively engage with them!
