With the Annual Awards Evening on the Friday, a record attendance at Bambies, completion of our Improvers Course and a busy Saturday evening practice session and then hosting the County Junior Championships on the Sunday, you could say we were busy! Well yes we were, but that warm glow of satisfaction that it’s all gone well makes it so worthwhile!
Club Annual Awards Evening
The Walls Club proved to be an excellent venue for our Annual Awards Evening.
The proceedings started with the showing of a slide presentation summarising the Club’s achievements and then individual member’s achievements during 2014!
A short bingo session, to raise funds for the new ground was then followed by an impressive recital on the flute by Izzy Henry our 5 times British Longbow champion!
Following a buffet the presentations were made by our Guest of Honour Kirsty Dunleavy the Active Gloucestershire Children and Young People Development Officer.
Copies of the Awards Evening presentation and the summary of 2014 Club and individual achievements will be available on this website in next couple of days.
Congratulations go to all those short listed and to the winners.
A special mention to Chloe Tucker for winning the Young Volunteer of the Year and for the team of Steve Howse, Kate Lawton and Roger Crang who were awarded the Jos Benfield Clubman of the Year Award for their tireless efforts to successfully complete the land purchase.

Steve, Kate & Roger received the ‘Jos Benfield’ Clubman of the year award on behalf of a very hardworking team!
County Junior County Championships Record Status Portsmouth
Congratulations to all the juniors that took part from 7 Gloucestershire Clubs and a special mention for Bowmen of the Deans that sent 7 archers for the first time!
With 29 County titles up for grabs we managed to secure 21 of them and in the process broke 9 County and 5 Regional Records!
Top score of the day went to James Howse who recorded 591 shooting in the Under 16 Compound, followed by Lucy Mason recording 581 in the Girls Under 16 Compound and became the 4th member of our 580+ Club!
From a Deer Park perspective other performances of the day included Personal Bests from Chloe Tucker (529), Chloe A’Bear, Anna Langdon, Lara Healey and an excellent 559 (with a miss) in the Boys under 16 Recurve from Robbie Baker! Another excellent score from Rachel Lucas shooting Barebow (511) and from debutantes Anya Dix also shooting Barebow (410) and Imogen Shiels!
Hopefully our performances will be a big boost in the lead up to next weekend’s British Indoor Championships at the Ricoh Arena – Coventry!
Improvers Course Completes
More than 20 participants who completed their Beginners Course back in October have now completed their Improvers Course and we now look forward to welcoming them into our regular practice sessions and getting them competing in some of the Club Target Days!
GL1 Recreation Centre goes all Danage!
Wales Archery are delivering 10 new Danage bosses to our recreation centre venue this week and they will be replacing our well worn straw bosses and battered stands that leave a trail of straw every time we use them! Should be quicker to set up and pack away as well!
Fundraising Brochure to support the development of our new ground and a Club Inclusion Policy Document have been drafted.
These 2 important draft documents will be presented to the Committee Meeting on the 2nd December for approval.
Another big thank you to the Worshipful Company of Fletchers
The Worshipful Company of Fletchers have again offered to provide support for our Record Status FITA18 Annual Inclusion Shoot taking place in February. We would like to record our thanks and confirm our commitment to continuing to develop this competition and the work the club is doing to encourage the participation of those with physical and special educational needs in our very inclusive sport.
