British Target Championships – Senior Competition Report

Sunday 4th December saw the second day of the British Target Championships dedicated to the Senior Championships, with hundreds of archers competing. A qualification round followed by the top 32 archers in each bow type going head to head in elimination rounds. We had 11 Archers competing, again one of the highest representations from a single club and there were some excellent performances.

A great venue for the Senior Championships.

Tom Howse, in his first Compound Tournament at this level finished a very impressive 6th overall, with just 3 GB archers ahead of him and leaving brother James who had finished 7th in the qualification round, trailing in his wake.

Tom Howse - Starts a new adventure next month, when he will be training as a ski Instructor in Canada. We wish him every success.

In the Ladies compound Lucy Mason finished 5th in the qualification round and in 7th following the elimination round, again as a junior very impressive, especially with her ankle injury. Holly Clifford who had won the British Junior Compound u16 Title on the Saturday finished 45th and we need to give a special mention to Amelia Williams who only recently took up Compound finishing in 56th place!

Riley Spencer-Nice (Centre) another great weekend of shooting and all his hard work rewarded. British U14 Recurve Champion.

Riley Spencer-Nice, age just 12 shooting recurve and who won the U14 British Title on the Saturday with 572, the highest total recorded at the championships in that category for 3 years, again impressed shooting against the seniors recording the highest score for our recurve archers, finishing 44th out of 182 archers and breaking another county record!

Molly Peters (junior) shooting recurve finished 56th with a score of 495 and recorded another County Record and a good weekend for her.

Ella Gibson fresh from her recent barebow British Titles had the confidence to shoot barebow against the Recurves on a 3 spot face, scoring a very impressive 467 and breaking the Junior and Senior county records in the process!

And finally the great news is that Gloucestershire won the Compound Team Title with Tom, James and Lucy and Adam Shaw from Cleve Archers, fantastic result, especially as we finished second last year!

We are waiting on the club compound team result again having finished in second place last year!

Another fantastic weekend for our club and our sport!
