This was one of those special days that ultimately defines us as a club, great attendance in the morning for practice & competition and then an afternoon of round-robin Boule with 18 teams and BBQ/Picnics!
The weather was very kind to us and the company was awesome! These are not my words but we all recognise the sentiment!
Amongst the many archers shooting in the morning there were 9 longbows so we completed a Western Round and there was the usual mix of banter, frustration and elation with everyone enjoying themselves! We got some excellent photos/video and the material will help towards the forthcoming video entitled ‘ Deer Park Twig Lobbers!
The BBQ’s were fired up for lunch and then the round robin boule matches began, with 18 teams competing, this proved to be an excellent way of getting members socialising and for some discovering skills they did not realise they had.
The matches were keenly contested but the clear winners with a 100% winning record were the pairing of Jane & Mary, the Club Child Protection Officer & Club Secretary.
There was a play off for second place as both teams only lost a single match, with JB & John just easing out Chloe & Caroline.
Five teams only lost 2 matches, so finishing just outside the medals were Dave & Hamish, Andrew & Christine, Colin & Robbie, Mel & Kev and Martin & Dan.
Unfortunately 2 teams finished with a 100% losing record and commiserations go to Lynn & Rosie and Lara & Connie! Their good news was that they won identical prizes to the winners!
Another busy weekend!
Friday Evening was a Committee Meeting when Steve Howse – Chairman confirmed that work commitments would mean that he would be spending a lot of time out of the country during the rest of the year and that Pete Langdon Vice-Chairman would be holding the fort during that period. Steve confirmed that the purchase of the new land was nearing completion and should be finalised mid September!
This would trigger another push on the fundraising side to facilitate us getting some of the basic facilities in place.
Saturday saw an excellent attendance at both the Inclusion Club and general practice session with lots of members returning from holiday and those juniors in the county team getting some more practice in for the metric rounds!
Steph has organised a team coach for the Gloucestershire County Junior Team travelling to Somerset next Saturday and together with parents and supporters it will be full!
The following day we will be supporting the Endsleigh Insurance Family Day and they are making a generous donation to the club for that support!
