County Indoor Championships Club Report

County Initiatives

Before we cover the County Indoor Championships can we highlight the work our County are undertaking to develop our sport and our county. They have adopted a set of objectives for 2018 and are already working towards them. These include a commitment to fund 2 Level 1 Coaching courses, providing 2 free places to every club in the County (more information to follow) and funding 2 Club Development Workshops supported by Sport England tutors (again watch this space), it is hoped that 2 members from every club will attend. Communications has always been a challenge, Bob Nicholls is developing the website towards a much more supportive, information sharing system. Why not enroll on one of the various forums, visit the website as it develops and keep in touch with tournaments, successes, opportunities and get involved.

There will be a big emphasis on clubs working together, hold that thought, better still act on it!

Wow – Unexpected success for our recurves!

With 11 of the 13 Gloucestershire clubs represented there was a great spread of entries than in recent times and the spread was even greater when considering 41 of the entries were from out of county clubs.

39 of the entries were from Deer Park, so we were well represented, a mixture of seniors and juniors making up a full entry of just over 130. Steph Gill was the Lady Paramount for the day.

We enjoyed a lot of success, for the first time winning both the Gents and Ladies Recurve with Ed Humphrey winning the Gents and Kieran Macey taking the silver. Molly Peters won the Ladies Recurve.

Dan Gill took silver in the Gents Compound.

Nice moment, especially as Steph met Dan when he was on a beginners course she was running!

The Gents Longbow saw us take all 3 medals, John Craigie top scoring, Graham Peters and then Kevin Macey following up, this was Kevin’s second longbow shoot! Lynn took 3rd in the Ladies Longbow.

Not quite our usual success in the Barebow category, John Dalton, equal top score but finishing second losing on count back and Imogen Colenutt taking a bronze in the ladies barebow.

We entered 2 teams in the team trophy and finished 1st and 3rd!

Ed, Molly & Ella formed the winning Team.

Our member’s best performances of the day included Jessica Diamond with an impressive 538, a huge PB, Jack Oram shooting Barebow and recording a new county record, with a massive PB. Kieran Macey also recorded a PB, as did Alex Parker on a 3 spot. A mention for John Craigie, who was unwell throughout the morning, recorded a good score and won the county title.

A big thank you from Deer Park to Edward Kain from Cheltenham Archers, who after organising many tournaments is stepping down for a well-earned rest.
