The weather was very kind to us and all the planned events were able to take place and were, without exception, a pleasure to be involved with! A big thank you to all those that helped organize the weekend and to those that supported it.
Ten Pin Bowling (Friday Evening)
Another great evening and thanks to Mel for organizing it. Well done to Simon (Champion), Martin & Roger for taking the Senior Medals & Will (Champion), James H & Nicole for taking the Junior Medals!
Team Positions were as follows:
A close second but still ‘first of the losers!’
A good performance in 3rd
Well done to all the other teams that competed.
Drills & Skills Session 1 of 3 (Saturday afternoon)
Great turn out, thanks to Dan & Steph for organizing it. Lots of learning, hard work etc and the feedback was excellent. These workshops will make a massive difference to both the development of our archers and our coaches! A provisional date of 16th February has been arranged for the next session.
Club Practice (Saturday Evening)
I guess partly due to the restricted sessions during the week due to bad weather, the evening session was very well attended and many members were able to complete Portsmouths for the Archery GB January Challenge. A number of Personal Bests, none more so than Kevin’s 526 shooting Barebow, giving an increase of 60 points on his previous PB and Chloe Tucker by 40 points and James Lawton increasing his PB to 572.
With 4 hours of activities at Balcarras our new help yourself to tea/coffee & biscuits service was very well supported.
Nutrition & Hydration Workshop (Sunday morning starting at 9am)
Attended by coaches & archers from clubs across the county, this workshop was extremely well received and will definitely be run again in the near future. Thanks to Steph for organizing it and to Matt Durber our external provider for delivering it.
Club Practice (Sunday Morning)
We thought this may be a comparatively quiet session, how wrong could we be! With Sunday afternoon being a Club Development Centre, providing 3 hours of 1 to 1 coaching for juniors, we were expecting low numbers. Instead, lots of members, many doing another Portsmouth for the Archery GB January Challenge, more coaching for the juniors that were not involved in the afternoon & even more PB’s. Mark Crompton getting 531 (A November beginner!) & Lynn Benfield recording also recording a PB to mention just a few.
Club Development Centre (Sunday Afternoon)
Thank you to all the coaches that supported the session, more than 36 juniors attended and thank you to the parents who brought them along. We are already seeing the improvements in their performances, both in technique and motivation, let’s keep up the good work. Next Junior Coaching Development Centre planned for the 3rd March.
Judging – Great news!
Congratulations to Richard Jones who became a Regional Judge over the weekend and to Keith Webb who became a County Judge! Without these guys we would not be able to put on record status events. It was also good news that Adrian Gifkins has become a Candidate Judge.
Beginners Courses
4 beginners courses starting this weekend at Birdlip (Monday’s & Friday’s) and a further course at GL1 next week. Attendees at these courses will join clubs across the county.
Field Course dates Announced
Lots of dates fixed for 2013. Website will be updated in next few days. Speak to Rosemarie Mckay if you would like to try field archery.
Bubbs Hill Winter Outdoor Practice Sessions
Please note that following the Christmas Holidays, sessions now revert back to Monday & Wednesday Mornings only.
Tuesday & Thursday Practice sessions – Booking System
As members know these sessions are extremely well attended, so if you reserve a place you need to use it or you may be denying someone else the chance to shoot!
Hatherley & Reddings – Thursday Session
Just a reminder that this Thursday is the last one in the month and we do not meet.
