Gloucestershire Junior Championships
Another great day for junior archery in Gloucestershire. 3 more National Records, a huge number of personal bests and a very well run competition demonstrating clubs working together, Cheltenham again hosting the event and Deer Park running it!
Supportive judges, good weather and a more than ample supply of refreshments and lots of support were the perfect conditions to guarantee a good event! To complete the day there was the Cotswold Head to Head, which ran like clockwork and Wales Archery Vouchers for the top 3 in each category!
Who says archery is not exciting and stuck in the past, that is certainly not the case in Gloucestershire!
The proceedings started with the award of County Colours and Year Bars to our triumphant team that won last weeks Junior Inter-Counties so convincingly! Our Lady P for the day and Team Manager Steph Gill presented the awards and judging by the performances of all the juniors on the day the team will be even stronger next year!
There were County Titles for Cheltenham Archers Emily Bryant, Lexie Evans,Austin Whitmarsh and Callum Bennetts. Cleve Archers had Tullalah Kelly, Will Hardy and Joshua Elgood winning titles and Phoenix Uddin won for Black and Gold!
There was an avalanche of titles for Deer Park, so congratulations go to:
Charlotte Lunt, Anna Langdon and Robbie Baker who also recorded the highest recurve score of the day with 624. To Lucy Mason who recorded another National Record, beating a long standing record held by our own Steph Gill!
Also to Hannah Deasy, Connie Healey, Ellie Gore, Will Kurtze, James Howse, Fin Cummins, Holly Clifford and Harry Faulkner again confirming Deer Park’s strength of their Compound Team!
Our Barebows are also looking ‘awesome’ with Page Tucker, Rachel Lucas, Chloe A’Bear, Mike Dalton, Aidan Miles and Hamish Ponton all winning County Titles!
Rachel who recorded 2 Metric 4 National Records last week at the Junior Inter-Counties last weekend, smashed another record beating a long standing record by 130 points and she also beat all of the male & female recurve archers shooting that distance!
Hamish Ponton continued his return to form also recording another National record and smashing it by 79 points in the process!
Deer Park also retained the Gloucestershire Perpetual Team Trophy through Holly Clifford, Robbie Baker and Rachel Lucas and our own Pete and Anna Langdon won the Parent & Child Trophy.
The Head to Heads saw the recurve combined title ( male, female, recurve,Barebow and longbow all shooting the minimum distance for their age) going toWill Hardy from Cleve just piping Robbie Baker Deer Park and Phoenix Uden Black& Gold. The compound title went to James Howse with a perfect 60 & 3 ‘X’s just beating Holly Clifford, again with a perfect 60 but 2 ‘x’s! Lucy finished in 3rd.
Many of the top performers will join the County Junior Team for County Junior Development Squad training over the winter, not just improving technique but also team spirit!
