Good week for competition!

County Senior Championships Sunday 8th March 2015

Firstly thank you to Edward Caine and his team for organising an excellent tournament.

Also to the judging team Richard Jones, Malcolm Wootton and Adrian Gifkins and also included our own Katherine Frusher who is on the Candidate Youth Judge Award Programme.

Gloucestershire is fortunate to have a great team of judges.

Ladies Recurve – Nicola Cramb, won silver and Christine was squeezed out of third, with a tied score, equal golds but had a miss!

We also won the team trophy with Lucy Mason, Tom Howse and Andy Cramb recording an impressive 1735.

This was a remarkable performance, we had by far the most entries of any club, lots of personal bests (which is the most important measure of progress) and reflects the commitment of our members to practice and the support our coaches provide.

Practice sessions continue to be very well attended

All our practice sessions continue to be well attended and this winter’s indoor programmes have hit new heights. Last Wednesdays GL1 session was typical.

We need to continue to convert practice session numbers into tournament entries.

Satellite Club match between HSFG’s and Balcarras

Thursday saw an after-school match between the High School for Girls and 2 teams from Balcarras using the School Games format. It turned out to be a titanic struggle with all 3 teams on identical scores with just one rotation left.

The standard of shooting was exceptional and bodes well for all 3 teams in this years county school games tournament.
Balcarras A Team ran out eventual winners by the narrowest of margins.

Next week sees the Balcarras Archery House matches taking place.

Good week for competition

Last weekend we reported on some successes at the Evesham FITA18.
Since then we got Kevin Sutherland’s score shooting Barebow on FITA 18 3 spot face of 472 beating his old record of 389 and recorded the same score in the afternoon so a double score of 944 which were new county records.

Club Record Status Double Bray

Just 2 weeks to our last indoor event, which we are hosting. Hopefully a few more National Records!

Sad News

We are sad to report that Clinton Wilson a much loved member of our Inclusion Club passed away in his sleep last week. He will be especially remembered for the joy he brought to every session.

Ontarget Club Competition

We have been drawn away to our friends from Tyndale Archers. Dave Sandles has agreed to be team Manager, his task will be a little more difficult this year as there is a new rule (which we support) excluding the use of all archers with international experience, which means a completely new team for 2015.

Initial discussions with Tyndale have resulted in us agreeing to run a parallel competition using the same 50m format for a longbow competition between the 2 clubs. This in term has highlighted a potential competition that we could organise towards the end of the outdoor season, inviting clubs to enter longbow and Barebow teams using the same format.
