Daily Practice Sessions at Balcarras
Fantastic attendance levels at Balcarras over the Christmas Holidays, lots of fun, plenty of coaching and the Head to Head Round Robin Competitions were excellent. Thank you to all those that helped organize them and to the members who helped with the refreshments etc.
We maintained the same target fee system so many were able to shoot a full seven times in the week for just £3.
XP also ran a voluntary have-a-go session to raise funds for a Charity.

The club would like to thank John Whitmarsh for his contribution during his time in the post. John has recently started a Level 2 Coaching Course.
Applications are invited for the above role. Speak to Mary for a job description. You should note that the Management Committee are reviewing the post at the next meeting and would welcome any thoughts prior to the meeting.

Club Record Status – Double Bray 1
Sunday 24th March. Get your entries in asap. Talk to any of the coaches for more information. This will be the last indoor shoot until next winter.
Success for Kevin and he has some hidden talents!
Kevin is in his first year of barebow shooting and has probably traveled more miles to competitions than any other member. He brought his collection in to show members over Christmas. That was impressive however his collection of Archery Poems, which he has written himself are even more so! We are hoping to encourage him to write some that we can put on the website, however he is hoping to publish a ful set in the near future.
Gloucestershire Senior Indoor Championships
A number of members have raised concerns about juniors being told that their entries will only be accepted if there are places available after all senior entries have been received. We have made representation to GAS about our concerns and the matter will be discussed at the County Management Meeting this Wednesday. In the meantime members are being encouraged to enter asap.
January Challenge
We are encouraging all members (Seniors & Juniors) to enter the above competition organized by Archery GB. We will ensure that priority is given to members wanting to record scores at Balcarras. There are 3 categories, started archery during 2012, experienced and started archery before 1988.
The round is a Portsmouth, we will provide score sheets. Pleasae ensure you get someone else to record your scores etc. Please give scores to Steph.
GWAS Postal League
Disability Club
During January/February we are running a number of have-a-go sessions specifically targeting a range of disabilities. We are working with a number of groups in conjunction with Active Gloucestershire to determine the demand, assess our training & equipment needs, suitable venues and timings. We also intend to invite coaches from other clubs as part of their development activities. Dave Sandles, our Disability Advisor is identifying specific equipment/information sources.
Roger is attending the Archery GB ‘Pass it on” Coaching Disabilities Weekend later in January.
Social Events
Tenpin Bowling planned for Friday 25th January at 7:30. Cost £7 juniors and £9 seniors for 2 games. 25% discount on food. Please let Mel know on melanies_theoaks@yahoo.co.uk as soon as possible. We had a great evening last time we organized this.
Mel/Mary etc are looking at the possibility of organizing a club fete this summer, would any members that have equipment/ideas etc that could be used at the fete, please let either Mel or Mary know please.
Club ‘Dog Show’. Yes you read it correctly! We have recognized that many members have dogs, so we thought it would be fun to organize a social event in the summer to bring them along, perhaps have ‘best in show, agility, best trained etc’ awards and take them for a short walk. Watch this space for further information.
Club Facilities of our own!
Early in 2013 we are launching a renewed effort to find land that we can either lease on a long term arrangement or purchase. We will be using local radio and press to advertise our ambitions. We will also continue to pursue our current leads. We have a small working group but would like to extend an invitation to other members who may be interested in getting involved and who would bring some new skills and thinking to the activity. Please let Mary know if you are interested or want to find out more.
