A very busy period of international activity for a number of our members and a good amount of success! When you look at the bigger picture it is quite remarkable that so much is going on in just one club!
So in chronological order:
Phoebe Pine represented GB in the European Para Archery Championships in Saint Jean de Monts (France) a couple of weeks ago and since then competed in 3 days of competition at the first stage of Archery GB’s Para Archery Rio Selection shoot and has now progressed to the final stage on the 2-5 June.
James Howse (16) has broken his own Junior British Record during his Senior Team Debut at the Hyundai World Cup in Shanghi and recorded higher scores than all but one of his senior team mates!
Lucy Mason flies out to Heviz in Hungry today to compete in the European Youth Cup. We wish her all the luck. Lucy (15) won the British Senior Indoor Title last December and is shooting well. Both Lucy and James will join the Senior World Cup Team in Antalya Turkey later this summer!
Dave Sandles has been selected for 2016 Invictus Games in Orlando
Dave has been selected on several accounts to be a part of the Invictus Games from 8-12 May.
Dave who completed our beginners course just over 4 years ago and subsequently the Level 1 Coaching Course was part of the 2014 coaching team and coached our own Paul Twaites to silver in the Novice Class and team Gold Recurve Novice.
Dave has helped coach monthly camps at Stoke Mandaville for the H4H Club as well as supporting Deer Park particularly at GL1. Dave is due to complete his Level 2 Coaching Course this May.
However, it’s even better than this as Dave has been selected as part of the hand cycling team competing in Orlando and this is proof of how hard he has worked especially following the time trials at Bath University at the end of January.
As an aside Dave is riding 100 miles on June 4th to raise money for BLESMA ( British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association. Any donations welcome on Dave’s Justgiving page.
On a more local note congratulations to Will Gore in pulling off an excellent win at last week’s Oxford Archers World Record Status Competition. There were also wins for Lucy Mason & Josh Uzzell
Committee Appointment – Treasurer
We are pleased to announce that Melissa Lovell has been appointed as Club Treasurer with effect from the 1st April. Dilys Hadley (retiring Treasurer) and Kate Lawton (Financial Advisor) will support Melissa until the handover/induction process is complete.
Club Facilities
We are pleased to confirm that we now have both electricity and water to the site, still lots to do but we are getting there. We will have a challenging few days to ensure we are ready to host next weeks County Friendly match between Gloucestershire and Worcestershire but in true Deer Park tradition we will be as ready as we can!
Primary School Games in full flow!
With more than 100 Primary schools competing in the school games over the next few weeks with all events supported by Xperience Archery and volunteers from Deer Park things will be a little hectic.
The Level 2 District events have started with Stroud North Finals where 15 schools fought for just a single L3 County finals place and Stroud South will be just as competitive! North and South are just one district and there are 5 Districts competing!
Volunteer Support Agreement
We are pleased to announce that we have agreed with National Grid the secondment of between 35-40 Engineers for a day (July 6th) to support the development of our facilities in recognition of our role in the community. We would like to record our thanks to Daniel Chun – Projects Manager – Involve Gloucestershire for making this possible.
