Lucy steals the show and becomes European Champion!

Despite Tom & James Howse shooting well, with James top scoring in the team competition and winning team silver and being desperately unlucky in the individual quarter finals, shooting a 10 in the one arrow shoot off but being beaten by an ‘x’ and equaling the National record it was Lucy Mason that stole the show!

After beating teammate Layla Annison, top seed Elisaveta Koroleva of Russia and Croatia’s Amanda Mlinaric the final step to European glory was to see off the challenge poised by Estonian Liseli Jaatma. It was a hard-fought contest but Lucy seized the initiative to take a two-point lead and the title of champion. Lucy also smashed the British record during an earlier round of the competition.

Tom Howse got to be part of the commentary team for the finals day and this added to our success as many members watched the finals live on Archery TV.

Lucy flew back on Sunday and later that afternoon visited our ground to share her success with Steph Gill and other members of the club. Lucy’s achievement was even more special as she sustained an injury in qualification, she will now need to take a short break to recover in time for the National Series Finals.
