More awards & successes in a busy few weeks!

The Club wins the ‘Ontarget’ Club of the Year Award

We had great news at the Ontarget Awards Evening which took place at Lilleshall as part of the Archery GB Development Conference when we were made the ‘Club of the Year’. This award is such an honor not just because it was from our own Governing Body but because the Development Conference was attended by members of so many outstanding clubs all of whom have achieved amazing things!

The county had 4 clubs from Gloucestershire attend and the Development Team put on a great weekend, well done to them.

A Great Weekend for Liza with two awards!

On Friday Liza Hadley won the accolade of Gloucester Young Person of the Year recognizing her outstanding services to the community and the following day was awarded the Ontarget Young Volunteer Award at the Development Conference! Well done Liza, an incredible achievement.

Gloucestershire Senior Indoor Championships

A great day, well done to the County for putting such a large event. We had 35 entries, 15 of them juniors and we won 4 of the 8 titles on offer, with 6 seconds and 3 thirds! Many personal bests, none more so than Christine Anderton with a massive Pb of 557 in the Ladies Recurve to finish second, James Howse (Jnr) with a Pb of 574, Tom Howse (Jnr) finishing 2nd in the Gents Recurve with 575. The club won both Longbow Titles with a good score of 452 from Martin Hutchings and a second success from Lynn Benfield. We also did the double in the Barebow with Kevin Sutherland and Nicole Deasy(Jnr) taking the titles.

Great showing in the January Challenge

Well done to all those members that entered the January challenge, especially all the juniors that had a go. With 1176 entries from 98 clubs it is likely that with well over 30 entries from Deer Park that we were one of the most active clubs!

GWAS Winter Postal League

We are almost complete, the last round of results to go in by the end of March. Thank you to Steph Gill for coordinating the entries and to more than 30 juniors for organizing themselves to take part. We look forward to seeing the final results!

Club Record Status Double Bray 1 – 24th March

Tournament is fully booked and we have 43 of our members shooting which is a club best for entering formal competitions, let’s hope that the competition can yield a couple of National Records to round off the indoor season!

We are pleased to announce that John Craigie has accepted the role of Lord Patron for the Competition.

Club Medals have arrived.

With the Bray in mind and the fact that we are going to run a number of indoor tournaments next winter we ordered a supply of medals and they look great and we negotiated an excellent price.

Junior 12 & Under Club Academy

23 of our youngest juniors were invited to an ‘Enjoy your Sport’ Session at Balcarras on Sunday. A great success, party food, games and some great shooting. Well done to all those that organized the event and to the Senior Juniors for supporting it!

Drills & Skills

The third session was run over the weekend, slightly less well attended than previous sessions but still a success, as it clashed with the England/Wales Rugby Match, I guess all the English supporters among us probably regret that decision now!

Fantastic Junior Squad Academy Session

Another great afternoon where members of the junior academy squad worked with the coaches in 1 hour slots. Great work everyone and you can see the progress being made. Thank you to Graham Williams for taking the time to help with some of the video analysis.

Improvers Programme

40 have signed up for an Improvers Programme which is designed to support archers who have recently completed beginners courses. This programme will run over almost 2 months, meet on a separate night away from current club activities and will include an introduction to field archery, an equipment maintenance workshop and a visit (out of hours) to Wales Archery.

Spring Practice Sessions

Arrangements will be circulated by email and put on the club website in the next couple of days.

New Foam Bosses for Bubbs Hill

New foam bosses will be delivered to Bubbs Hill later this week. We will be asking for some volunteers to help set them up.

The purpose of the meeting is to prepare a one year deliverable action plan for disability development across archery. Dave & Roger have been invited to take part at Lilleshall this Tuesday.

Club Committee Meeting Monday 18th March

Just a reminder that the meeting will be at Deer Park.

Cheltenham Easter Bunny Competition – 1st April

A reminder to get your entries in asap. Cheltenham have also included a very Short Junior National to accommodate those that can only shoot short distances. Talk to the club coaches if you have questions but get those entries in. We will be able to shoot at Bubbs Hill in the week leading up to Easter to get sight marks.
