First of all an apology, there are certainly more recent successes than this bulletin highlights but available time and information means we cannot cover it all!
Tom Howse is currently in Korea as a member of the 9 strong GB Team taking part in the Seoul International Archery Festival. This is a great opportunity for Tom to establish himself in the GB setup as he is shooting really well. The qualification round saw Tom finish an amazing 11th place amongst 57 of the world’s top junior recurve archers, which was the highest position of any of the GB archers!
Tom has now progressed to the Gold Medal Match! Tom started well, beating Ka Lok Ho of Hong Kong 6-0 and then American Sean Chang 6-2. He then saw off sixth seed Shu Chieh Chang of Taiei before coming up against the third seed from Korea, Sung Woo Park. Tom beat him 6-2 to earn a semi-final showdown with Luis Gabriel Moreno of the Philippines beating him 6-4 and gaining a place in today’s final!
This performance is no surprise to members of Deer Park, we all see how hard Tom works, his extraordinary fitness levels and what it means to him and yet always being prepared to help others and join in with the general happenings at the club!
More good news as Lucy Mason represented England at last weekend’s Euronations hosted by the Welsh Archery Association. A great weekend for both Lucy & England! Overall team gold, compound team gold & individual gold!
Phoebe Pine won Bronze at the IWAS International event at Stoke Mandaville as she continues to improve.
Great shooting at Black & Gold despite challenging conditions!
Following on from last weekend’s Cheltenham FITA where there were golds for Anna Langdon (Recurve) who recorded county & regional records with a score of 1224, Rachel Lucas, Will Kurtze, Alfie Wilkes, Peter Langdon, Kev Sutherland, & Arron Pearce there was more success at Black & Gold but mostly different names this time!
There were golds for Connie, Molly, Josh, Luke, Riley, Rosie, Rosemarie, Holly, Will, Roger & Jamie. We also won the team trophy with Holly, Molly and Riley recording excellent scores in very blustery conditions.
It would be remiss of this report not to compliment Black & Gold on the quality of their tournament, every aspect was well presented, well organized and they have set a standard which will be difficult to equal!
Busy Practice Sessions Continue!
At this time of the year a combination of unpredictable weather and the start of the school summer holidays usually means that the club practice sessions are slightly quieter, but this is not proving to be the case this year!
A number of possible reasons for this but there is one dominant reason, more members are entering competitions and that always results in higher attendance levels at practice sessions.
Another important factor is the way we structure our membership fees, with the annual club fee for members being just £12 (plus the Archery GB fee) and a target fee of £3:50 (reduced for families), 5 winter (each session lasting between 2 & 4 hours) and 6 summer sessions per week and just the single payment, it encourages members to attend a number of times in the week to get their money’s worth!
The target fees cover our winter running cost, which are great venues and are in excess of £220 per week during the winter!
Purchase of new ground.
Work continues and we are almost there, it is all in the hands of the solicitors and we are hoping to complete late August/early September. The process has taken longer than we thought and the legal fees will be higher than originally budgeted for however the whole process has been incredibly thorough, nothing has been left to chance and once the purchase is complete we will know that we have a secure facility on which to build our future!
Xperience Archery
Steph & Dan have asked us to record their thanks for all the cards & gifts from members and friends recognizing the birth of Jacob Gill last week. They brought him to Black & Gold on Sunday.
They would also like to thank the Deer Park members who have continued to support the many summer camps, community have a goes etc. The Club would also like to thank them for their continued support and the opportunities they provide for club members to actively support the local community!

Filming Inclusive Archery
We have just been informed that during the week beginning the 18th August that a film crew would like to visit the club. They are creating a programme demonstrating that those with disabilities can take part in sport and that there is already a lot happening in the county.
