New Year off to a good start!

Our annual club Portsmouth on New Year’s Day was very well attended and we again had to add a 9th target.

The highest quality competition was definitely that involving the barebows with the top 3 all scoring over 500, John Dalton with 523 followed by Rachel Lucas and Ella Gibson who recorded over 500 for the first time. Imogen Colenutt who recently converted from recurve recorded 380 which was better than her recurve best!

The longbow competition was also very competitive but not of the same in-depth quality, John Craigie winning by some distance with 425 but at one stage had looked set for well over 450. However Lynn Benfield recorded a personal best with 408 and Steve Mason finished 3rd on gold count-back with 375.

A good time was had by all.

Will Gore won the recurve with 537 with Charlotte Lunt equaling the score but with a miss. Martin Tucker finished 3rd. Lucy Mason won the compound section ahead of Dan Gill.

Field Course Called Off

More because of the predicted torrential rain than the ground conditions, our visitors, from a number of out of region clubs  asked for a postponement, it turned out to be a good decision. Work continues on the course and now the signage is almost complete.

New signs have been made for both the field course and the target range.

New signs have been made for both the field course and the target range.

Earlier in the week a number of archers had shot on the target field and despite all the rain we have had it was amazingly dry. Just a year ago we were wading around in a swamp, the drainage has certainly worked! This is not a statement that our work on the playing surface is complete, we need to put some considerable effort in over the next few years to improve the quality of the soil and the grass.

Christmas League Report

The deadline has been extended to the 17th January. The longbow league is complete, with John Craigie winning with a 100% record, just 3 points ahead of Martin Hutchings. This format has been so popular with the longbows they are hoping to complete a re-run by the new 17th deadline!

Archery GB January Challenge

More than 30 scores have already been recorded and plenty of time to add to that list and to beat existing scores!

Our next big challenge!

DEER PARK ARCHERS -UK Record Status FITA18

21st February 2016 – Cheltenham Recreation Centre, Leasure@, Tommy Taylors Lane, Cheltenham, Glos GL50 4RN

This is our 3rd PARA focused archery event incorporating the BWAA National Indoor Competition that is also open to all archers.
This is a big venue and our vision is that one day we may be able to fill it purely with Parasports men & women as the sport of archery continues to grow, we are not at that point yet so able-bodied archers are encouraged to enter (although priority will be given to Para archers should the competition be oversubscribed), this is necessary at the moment to make this competition viable.
