Tip Top!

Archery GB Big Weekend

We ran an open community session at GL1 – Gloucester Leisure Centre and it turned out to be the best ‘have-a-go Community session we have ever run.

A great venue and set up.

Having invested a lot of time promoting the event we hoped for a good response and we got one! We were well prepared and had no less than 37 volunteers supporting the event and our partners GL1 were also very pleased with the response.

Long day, had a morning team (Pictured) and an afternoon team.

Loads of takers for beginners courses, our other weekly open community sessions, bambies and likewise for the archery sessions that GL1 run.

We catered for 5 -7 year olds with the Arrows equipment and also had an archery related craft area and a tombola to raise some additional funds, we charged a small fee to have-a-go and that did not seem to deter anyone.

Arrows equipment a big hit (as always).

We had a number of visitors who had travelled some distance for the event and most of those were a product of our efforts with the Primary School Games.

Sport and Recreation Alliance Awards

Sport and recreation

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a ‘Special Commendation’ from the Sport & Recreation Alliance for our contribution to grass roots sport and will be featured on their website. Well done to all our members for achieving this recognition it is well deserved.

Despite having many members volunteering and a well attended practice session on Saturday evening, beginners and improvers courses running over the weekend we still fielded a good number of archers at local competitions.

Satellite Club

Following conversations with Active Gloucestershire we are in negotiations with Churchdown School to set up another Satellite Club. They have a team in the L2 Secondary School Games this week and are indeed hosting that event. We would support the development of their Archery Leaders to become Coaches and help them to increase participation by providing additional equipment.
