EGM
The evening went to plan with all proposals to amend our constitution to comply with CASC requirements unanimously agreed. Although right in the middle of the holiday season more than 50 members attended and a further 30 postal ballots were registered. We also took the opportunity to formalize the guidelines for Associate and non shooting Volunteer Membership.
Big Event
More than 100 visitors got to try archery; the Arrows kit for younger participants was a great hit! Lots of people signed up for beginners courses and there were donations of just over £150 towards the purchase of our new field! Well done to archery GB for coordinating the event and to all our volunteers.
Gloucestershire Voices
Dave and Roger attended the above event at the Gloucestershire Guild Hall as part of Disability week where 100 people with learning disabilities and their carers attended, lots of interest in our sport and the 2 disability projects the club are organizing. A number of those who attended this event also attended the Big Weekend event and there was a lot of interest in the adaptations that Dave is developing.
County Senior Champs
Well done to Martin Hutchings who became County Longbow Champion on hits following a tied score with our own John Craigie. Ian Pearce made it a 1,2,3 for Deer Park. Kevin Sutherland won the Mens Barebow title and Beckie Hutchings the Ladies Compound Title.
There were also first place finishes for Christine Anderton and Anthea Searle in their non championship events!
Awards – What a difference a bow makes!
Some more Progress and Postal League/competition awards were presented over a number of our practice sessions.
Sasha had been the recipient of a White Progress award last week, she has just got her own bow, decided to do a Progress Award on her first evening and qualified for a Red Award. Very well done!
Archery GB Academy Cup Success
This weekend saw the Archery GB Academy meet for athlete feedback. Dan attended the 2 interviews with Tom and Liza, the first was planned for 8:15 at Lilleshall! On the Saturday there was an Academy Competition involving the 10 girls and 12 boys from the World Class Programme, Cadet & Junior. Tom House won the Individual Academy Cup and Liza was part of the pair that won the Mixed Pairs Competition!
Community
Very busy every day over the last 2 weeks supporting programmes as far afield as Bristol and Yate, but also in the local area, working in SEN Schools, recreation centres and corporate family days! One feature is the number of club volunteers that have supported all the events.
Magic Bean Company Delight!
We were blessed with great weather for our visit to an organisation that supports so many adults with SEN needs, we are planning a much bigger event over the winter.
Parent & Child Success!
Following some much demand for our community courses at the Cheltenham Leisure centre we decided to arrange a Parent & Younger Children have-a-go session, a total of 47 parents and under 8’s attended a 2 hour session, where the parents tried our sport at one end of the hall and the juniors did Arrows at the other end. Huge success, even more applications for beginners courses and definitely the way forward!
Jumble Sale – Planned for Saturday 16th November
Calling all members and supporters of the club, please start to look things out, the plan is to get things dropped off during the morning with the event taking place from 1:30 to 3:30 in Hatherley.
We would welcome any ideas on how to make this event even better, please let us know. Further details will be in the Club Members Newsletter.
Pipes
Thanks to all those that helped with the Potholing Pipes, especially John Craigie. We will be asking for a group ‘pipe moving’ effort at a practice session in early September.
Coaching Courses
Offers for places on the 2 Level 1 Courses starting later this year, have been issued 10 of the 24 places have been offered to members of Deer Park.
The course programme will include a Child Protection Course, a Sports Coach UK ‘How to work with disabled people’ workshop, Fundamentals of Movement workshop, using the Arrows Kit Programme and a Skills & Drills Workshop.
Archery GB Membership
Thanks to all the members who have registered their Archery GB Membership Renewals before the end of August. Our decision to keep the Club Annual Membership fee at just £12 even with the pressures of fund raising for our new ground has been very well received!
Top attendances at practice sessions as the summer holidays draw to a close!
Great attendances at all the sessions, especially at our Monday Bank Holiday shoot. Thought it may be a little quieter the following evening but we got that wrong!
Beginners courses
Four more group courses starting mid September as well as a number of private courses, these will be followed by 6 week Improvers Courses, so it is going to be a busy time for the coaches.
