Well done to Ella!
British compounders took gold and silver at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Berlin today!
Gold went to Ella Gibson and James Mason in the mixed team competition. They beat Croatia 147-145, top seeds Colombia in a shoot-off and Italy 148-145. That left them facing Slovenia’s Toja Ellison and Stas Modic in the gold medal showdown. And it was close – but the Britons gained a slight advantage and held on to win 156-155.
“Ella was full of praise for James, who only missed the middle once in the 16-arrow final. “He helped me through shots and it was just really good,” she said. “Very nerve-wracking but I really enjoyed getting on the stage,” she said.
Britain’s last compound World Cup circuit gold came courtesy of Nicky Hunt at the Shanghai stage in 2010.
It was Ella’s second medal of the day. Earlier she, along with Susan Corless and Sarah Moon, took team silver. They defeated New Zealand 230-217 and Germany 227-221 to book a title showdown with Turkey. It was a hard-fought match but Yesim Bostan, Gizem Elmaagacli and Ipek Tomruk gradually edged ahead to secure gold.

Alex Parker and Chloe A’Bear both made it a double gold weekend! Likewise Ryan Faulkner and Emily Summers double Silver and Holly Clifford also claimed a silver! Rosie Preece narrowly missed out on a bronze and Grace Chappell was in a medal position until the last dozen arrows!
Some huge jumps in personal bests made it another excellent weekend?
The County Ladies Compound Team (all ours) won the National Team Award, the Regional Team also won (all but one ours!), result Chloe left with a 4 medal haul! Not bad for a weekends work!
At the time of writing this report we also had archers at 3 other events, sure to have been some good performances, their results to follow.
Tesco Bags for help result.
After 2 months of the clubs ‘Me time’ project being voted on by Tesco customers we are eagerly awaiting the outcome, this will determine the amount of funding (£1000-£4000) for our project to develop an adapted kit Arrows play area. Let’s hope we are as successful as this weekend!
County Combined Junior and Senior and Open Championships at Deer Park was a big success!
As a county we have struggled particularly with the senior entries, so a new date and format was tried, entries increased and 27 bosses were wheeled out. From a club perspective this was the largest tournament so far, no problems and a confidence now that we can cope with 32 bosses, the concern was car parking and that proved not to be an issue.
Massive positive feedback on the days organisation and on the fantastic facilities we are developing, well done to all our volunteer workforce! The county archers also supported our efforts and the environment created was a pleasure to be part of!
We should also report that our archers did extremely well particularly in the senior section
