This is a report written from a Club perspective on what turned out to be a great day for many of our members with 10 becoming Regional Champions and some great individual performances in the Head to Head Competition!
Gloucestershire County Junior Team
Finishing second in the team event, was disappointing from a County point of view but again from a Club perspective with 11 of the 15 team members being Deer Park and this is not an exaggeration, we could fill a further 18 places with juniors of the same standard!
The 4 non Deer Park members, 3 from Cheltenham & 1 from Fast & Loose were all part of our 8 Day Junior Squad Programme in 2011 & 3 of them also became Regional Champions.
Our Club Development Centre will continue to build on what is proving to be a great foundation for talented members.
Firstly a mention for our New Regional Champions, Holly, Lucy, Becci, James, Will, Callum, Ciarran, Katherine, Victoria & Liza.
Charlotte, Robbie & Nicole picked up medals for top 3 finishes and Austin, Sammy (Both 9 years old, shooting in under 12’s) & Tom C. recorded personal bests. Tom Howse was not able to shoot as he was at Lilleshall as part of the ‘World Class’ Programme.
What is also very promising is that a big majority of our juniors starting to push for places in the County Junior Team are recurves and analysis of the results shows that Gloucestershire were the top Recurve & Compound Teams on the day!
The event also included a Head to Head competition for the County Team members and Beccii shot awesomely to win the compound, Charlotte won through the 32 recurve archers to reach the final, winning silver! Katherine also got through to the Barebow final again winning silver.
In summary our County Team, comprising mostly Deer Park Archers, took on the combined might of Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset & Wiltshire and came close to beating the lot of them and we could field a further team of equal strength and even more on the Deer Park Archers ProductionLine!!
Something else became very evident on the day, that is the fantastic team spirit and support that all our team demonstrated for each other!
