James completed a fantastic week at his first World Youth Championships by securing a Bronze Medal in a dominant win 145/141 against Jesse Sut from Italy.
James ranked 6th in qualification got a bye in the round of 32, then beat Rivera Diego from Puerto Rico 133/129, Jaridrid Rossiter from Australia 138/123 before beating fellow GB archer Luke Ralls in a 1 arrow shoot off 139/139. In the semifinal he was beaten by the eventual winner Viktor Orosz from Hungary 134/141.
Earlier in the week James had partnered Lucy Mason (an all Deer Park team!)in the mixed team beating South Africa 139/128 in the bronze medal match. On the way to the semi they beat Estonia 146/136 but lost to the eventual winners and number one seeds Mexico.
Our club could not be more proud of James and Lucy’s achievements, especially when the have another couple of years at that age group!
James and Lucy had returned from the European Championships in Austria 2 weeks earlier with both winning team medals and James an Individual Bronze.
Being able to watch the competition live on World Archery TV has allowed us to see the qualities of James a Lucy and to share in a fantastic experience for them and for Deer Park Archers getting a mention on the World Archery Website is something else!
A year ago they were competing in the Level 3 Gloucestershire School Games and their success was highlighted at this weekend’s School Games as an inspiration to participate in sport.
