A big thank you to all those involved in hosting the Fita Star & British Junior Championships weekend it was superbly organized!
FITA Star
What a weekend we had, the Fita Star on the Saturday saw 6 members competing & there were wins for Tom House Metric 1 Recurve recording 1267, 3 Compound winners, Beckie Hutchings with 1287, James House with 1396 & Lucy Mason with 1407 and another National Record! James Lawton collected a silver medal with 1278 and Liza Hadley finished 6th in the Metric 2 Recurve with 1083.
Things got even better on the Sunday with our members achieving;
- 7 Rose Awards
- 2 Six Gold End Badges
- 2 National Records
- 5 British Champions
- 3 Silver Medals
- 2 Bronze Medals
- 15 Personal Bests!
- Gloucestershire won the Mixed Compound Teams
- Gloucestershire finished 2nd in the Mixed Recurve Teams
On a day dominated by ourselves and Sittingbourne Community College if proof was needed that school clubs and junior focused programmes really do work then this was proved beyond doubt.
Well done to Riley, Nicole, Lucy, James & Izzy on winning Gold Medals. Lucy broke her own National record when recording 143 out of 144 Golds! Nicole recorded a National Record although it is likely that her score a couple of weeks ago will be ratified as the new National record, that score was a couple of points higher but is awaiting ratification.
Silver medals for Tom, Beckie & Hamish and Bronze Medals for Chloe who shot very well & Victoria who became the second club member to win a British Championship medal in 2 different disciplines, longbow & Barebow. The first was Steph who became British Champion at both Compound & Recurve!
There was heart break for Fin Cummins, doing his first competition finishing 4th however his score of 1202 earned him a Gold Rose Award and a Six Gold End Badge, not bad for his first competition!
The success of Gloucestershire winning the Mixed Compound Team (James House, Lucy Mason & Leo Reeves) & finishing Runners-Up in the Mixed Recurve team (Charlotte Lunt, Liza Hadley, Tom House & Lexie Evans) is a testimony to our Academy & the Counties Junior Squad Development Programmes!
There were many Personal Bests over the weekend in very hot conditions!
- Tom Howse – 4 PB’s (Over all & distance records)
- Callum Fraser – 6 PB’s
- James Howse – 1 PB
- Lucy Mason – 4 PB’s
- Victoria Fraser – 6 PB’s
- Anna Langdon – 1 PB
- Chloe A’Bear
- Charlotte Lunt
- Will Gore
- Austin Whitmarsh
- Fin Cummins
- Sammy Howse
- Riley Spencer-Nice
- Izzy Henry
- Chloe Tucker
Our greatest achievement was the great team spirit and the way we supported each other throughout the weekend! The presentations were proceeded by Steph getting a good soaking from the junior team!
More County Records for Kevin
A number of members were competing in the Cheltenham Fita, Kevin incurring the wrath of Mel for competing just hours before jetting off to Florida for 3 weeks broke a 14 year old Gents Fita Record by 43 points, also recording distance records at 70, 50 & 30 metre distances!
Sunday also saw the Cheltenham Summer Shoot take place and there was a Hereford win for Andy Clifford, a second place for Lynne & a third for Ian.
