Club Volunteering Day
Despite the short notice we had an excellent turn out to help with various club maintenance activities.
The 350m track from the road to our car park has now been tarmacked thanks to Elliot’s Cheltenham Ltd, fantastic job!
Following completion last week of all the work that needed to be carried out on the field course trees a team has cleared the paths, added extra targets, built steps and another bridge and it is looking great. We have now reopened it!
The external and internal work on the temporary clubhouse is transforming it, extra boundary fencing was completed and many bosses had their centers replaced to list just a few of the jobs completed.
First Friday Evening Junior only session
A fantastic success, attended by many more than we hoped and we may see even more at the next session in 2 week’s time! Thanks to Steph for putting in the preparation and to all those that supported the event.
As well as coach supported shooting there was some team building activities.
School Games comes to a great climax!
Just over a week ago saw the climax of the Primary and Secondary School Games with finals at Hartpury. Active Gloucestershire have confirmed that archery was the most competitive of all the sports that took part over the past year, a great credit to XPA and to all our volunteers that have supported the various events.
Balcarras (one of our satellite clubs) won the Secondary School County Final, with the very last arrow of the event beating Archway in the Gold Medal Match with KLB beating SWR in the Bronze medal match.
The Primary School Finals were contested by 10 teams of 9 archers having survived very competitive District Finals with over 120 schools entering. Teams beat last year’s County Records several times on the way to the Level 3 event and finals day was no exception with Hillview (last year’s winners) beating it in the qualification round to seed them ranked 1. The top 5 teams went into the Grand final and the other 5 teams competed using the Arrows Adapted kit.
Again the event was very close, with Hillview just being pipped by Sapperton, with Callowell taking the bronze. This is now a huge annual event which continues to get bigger and better!
National County Team Championships at Lilleshall – Stunning Performances!
Congratulations to an all Deer Park Team representing Gloucestershire who finished 3rd against very strong opposition. Our Ladies Compound Team comprising, Amelia Williams, Lucy Mason and Ella Gibson were the youngest team in the women’s compound competition. Lucy achieving a new National Record for the 50m round on Saturday, and a new European Record for the 70m distance on the Sunday. Ella recorded a huge PB for the WA1440 on the Sunday, coming 2nd overall against some top quality opposition. Millie’s great shooting throughout the weekend, in what was not only her first 720, but also the first time she had competed in a 2 day competition was incredible.
It is also worth highlighting that our H2H individual and team practice sessions have clearly paid dividends.
Tockington Summer Tournament
Thank you to Tockington for organising another great tournament and well done to all our members that competed, highlights of which were Adrian Stockwell winning the Gents York Longbow, there were also wins for Molly Peters and Rosie Preece in the all-day competition, Martin Tucker in the afternoon Nationals. Alex Parker taking silver and Christine Anderton bronze.
ClubMark Assessment
Following last Tuesdays ClubMark Assessor visit to one of our practice session, we have been informed that subject to a couple of points of clarification we will have met the criteria. This is the Gold Standard for sports clubs and on behalf of all the members we would like to thank our committee members and all the volunteers that support the running of our club.
