26 entries on the Saturday and 10 on the Sunday, our biggest number so far, many of them competing at that level for the first time at the Coventry Ricoh Arena with over 900 Archers competing over the 2 days making it one of the top 3 events in the world!
Our team did us proud with 6 of them becoming British Champions, 2 winning silver, one bronze and a host of Personal bests!
Last year we were the top performing club, we repeated the performance again this year with 6 Golds, we were 2 ahead of Sittingbourne and no other club won more than one Gold!
Riley Spencer-Nice, age just 8, shooting Barebow in the U12’s won with an amazing score of 452 a County Record, which would have seen him finish 2nd in the Under 18’s. In September Riley broke a National Record so this is certainly not a one off!
Ciaran Lunt lifted the U18 Barebow Title with a score of 494, he also shot recurve in the morning session finishing 21st. Ciaran also won the barebow title in 2011.
James Howse destroyed his opposition in the boys U14 Compound, recording a creditable 571, some 34 points ahead of second and added to his already long list of National Titles.
Lucy Mason again clinched her category with a score of 561 and winning by over 90 points and added to her long list of titles.
We secured 2 medals in the recurve category with Austin Whitmarsh, just 9 recording 471 in the U12’s and won silver. Austin went on to record 497 on a Portsmouth on the Sunday, a personal best and County Record. Tom Howse finished 3rd in the very competitive U18 group with a score of 569.
Hamish Ponton won the U16 Barebow title, this followed his success last weekend when finishing 2nd in the National Barebow Championships, as did Ciaran Lunt.
Izzy Henry, competing in just her second competition, won the U14 Longbow title but also secured the overall title as she recorded the highest Junior Ladies Longbow score of the Day! Izzy pushed Victoria Fraser into the silver medal position despite Victoria recording a personal best!
There were many other excellent performances and personal bests, all of these juniors are part of the Deer Park Archers Development Centre (Academy) and are a product of hard work, good coaching and lots of support from the club and their parents. There were heart break 4th place finishes for Holly Clifford and James Lawton. Chloe Ball-Hopkins returned to competition following injury and despite using a low poundage bow recorded 525.
A number of our juniors also shot on the Sunday in the Senior Championships, top performance was from Calllum Fraser who recorded 567 on a Fita 18. Callum was eliminated in the H2H by no less than Liam Grimwood, he finished 17th of the 105 entries!
Beckie recorded 558 and was eventually eliminated by Rikkii Bingham the eventual winner, Beckie finished 9th of the 59 competitors!
Martin Hutchings eventually finished 5th and was eliminated 6 -4 by the eventual Silver medal winner.
Well done to all our members that competed.
Full set of pictures presented to music will be on website this weekend.
Beckie gets the call to join the Archery GB Junior Compound Squad!
Beckie Hutchings has become our 4th junior to join a National Level Development Squad in the last 12months, this is fantastic news for her and the club. Well done!
Archery GB Ontarget Specialisms
We are pleased to announce that in addition to our ‘Community’ Specialism we achieved earlier this year that we have now been awarded the ‘Young People’ Specialism, we understand that only 2 clubs in the UK have achieved this standard to date.
Later this week we are hoping to hear how our application to also become a ‘Performance’ Specialist Club has been received, something that we have striven for and would complete the full set!
National ‘Field Archery’ League
We have made excellent progress on preparing the field course for our first home shoot on Sunday 9th December. The 12 target FITA Course will be a challenging one, with plenty of undulations etc but has plenty of clear overshoot to hopefully mean finding any stray arrows will be easy!
We could certainly do with more entries, PLEASE any club members who would like to give field archery a try, then talk to Rosemarie, Martin or Roger. You will enjoy the challenge!
This competition will finish before 1pm so juniors who wanted to attend the Club Development Centre in the afternoon could still do both events!
Club Annual Awards & Family Beetle Drive (7th December)
