In many ways the past few weeks sum up why we love our sport and the role our members play in achieving that, so a few highlights to share!
Supporting each other
Thank you to the Bowman of Minchinhapton for inviting us to host their Summer Tournament after their ground was invaded by uninvited travellers. They ran a great event and it was a pleasure to support them and see so many new faces at Deer Park.
More than 20 of our members also competed.
Report on our World Record Status720 H2H and team weekend
Two days of well attended competition and despite the forecast of challenging weather conditions with the exception of a hour of heavy rain at the end of day 1 the weather was fine.

One of the highlights was Penny Healey Commissioning our new bell which will be rung each time World or British Records are broken at our ground. Penny broke our first World Record back in September 2022. Brass plaques will be added to commemorate each occasion so we have quite a few plaques to engrave! Those achieving their first official 6 Gold End will now also get to ring the bell to celebrate their achievement!Thank you to Graham Smith for making the fabulous stand which is made entirely of pallet wood.
Giants Chair is a great success!
Our latest feature aimed at providing a photographic/social media opportunity is proving to be a roaring success. It captures the fun of a visit to Deer Park, of course again made entirely of recycled materials.
Extension Project
Work has begun with the foundations being completed this week, a massive thank you to our volunteers who are working so hard to labour for the contractors to keep the cost down! Also we are again indebted to our neighbours Elliott’s Cheltenham Ltd for all the support they are providing.
Boule Courts Refurbished
Our boule courts have been completed refurbished ready for the Annual Club Championships at the end of the month.
New Field Course features
Our new woodland store has been completed incorporating a number of bird and bat boxes and the foundations and vertical supports for our shooting tower have been completed in preparation for our 2 day 3D field tournament in October. This structure will also incorporate a badger hide.
Junior Club activities
Last week saw a large number of our juniors completing a round on the field course, without exception they all had great fun. The standards they achieved were amazing, well done to everyone that took part, including the coaches that supported every group.
Next week will see the opportunity for our juniors to try running archery as we are hosting what will be the biggest formal club organised running archery event held in the UK! We are fortunate enough to already have some great competitors including Ethan Hendry who is doing brilliantly in the National Series!
Open Community have-a-go archery session this weekend
Saturday saw another of our open community events. Recently we have delivered a string of team building have-a-goes for a wide range of local businesses. Again, thank you to all our volunteer coaches. Another fully booked Monday evening beginners course has also started.
Hedging & Orchard Projects
With more than 500m of boundary hedging planted a few years ago, and a flourishing 25 tree orchard, despite the dry weather it is looking amazing. As can be seen from this picture it provides a fabulous setting for archery.
