121 archers registered for Stage 1 of the 2025 Junior Archery Series from as far afield as Scotland and Northern Ireland. It was a fantastic team effort from everyone to ensure one of our biggest ever competitions ran smoothly.
From Men-In-Sheds who prepared the ground to our fantastic field crew, the team in the kitchen who kept everyone refreshed through a very long day, our supportive judges and the team who helped pack up at the end, everyone played their part.
After 12 ends of qualification, the archers faced off in head to head matches – the most tense form of the sport. Over the best of five ends, the Recurve and Barebow archers tried to outscore their opponents on set points while the Compounds had to set the highest 15 arrow score. In every round of Head to Heads, we had at least one shoot-off – one arrow, nearest to the middle wins where a few millimetres can mean the difference between progressing to a medal match or going home!
We had archers taking part and finished joint second in the medal table with Sam Bowden winning the Barebow Male Gold medal and Harriet Beckinsale-Smith taking home the Compound Female Bronze.
The raffle raised an amazing £276 towards the floor replacement project and we did a roaring trade in bird boxes and insect hotels. Thank you to everyone for their donations.

Have-a-Go Open Community Sessions
We are hosting open community ‘have-a-go’ events on the Saturdays of the 10th & 17th May. Details can be found here.
Running Archery opportunity to try this sport!
Open invitation trial have-a-go sprint and 4K at our ground on Saturday 24th May between 1.30pm & 4pm.
All age groups, juniors and seniors, novices welcome. A relaxed and supportive opportunity to discover this form of archery! Rules will be explained on the day. No compounds. Must be a current AGB member.

We will be hosting one of the Run-Archery National Series events on the 21st June. Sprint, relay and 4K races all available! Spectators are welcome, this is great to watch!
Expansion Project to be completed in August!
Despite these busy times work will continue throughout this period to complete our Expansion Project delivering a new social gathering area, men-in-sheds workshop, 50% increase in floodlit shooting bays, new field course centre and a member’s equipment maintenance area.
Environmental Stewardship gaining further momentum!
The recent addition of over £20K worth of solar energy battery storage, numerous recycling programmes, improved land management practices and support in particular to our bird, insect and hedging programmes are all generating interest in what can be achieved!
